Hell's Gate

Hell's Gate was this really cool place we stopped at during our first day in BC. You get there and they load you up into these SkyTrams that take you across a raging river.

The story behind it is pretty cool. In 1808 an explorer names Simon Fraser was exploring the region. The river that runs through Hell's Gate is the Fraser River, named after him. When he saw the narrow passage he said "surely this is the gate of hell". Why? Because the Fraser River, normally a very wide river, narrows to about 115ft at the mouth of Hell's Gate. That narrowing forces the water to flow very very fast through the pass.

See all the water pouring through? Every minute over 200 million gallons of water go through that! It was very loud but also very cool.

This is the suspension bridge that you can walk across. It was very cool too. The floor of it is that see-through metal wire stuff:

So you could look down through the wires and see the river about 200 ft below you! Dad freaked and wouldnt let me go very far out on it. Apparently he doesnt like heights. Who knew? But we didnt stay long cuz we had to get on the road. But it was a very pretty place to stop.
