It's like Colorado.... only forever.

So we made it into Canada! The first day we made it to
Prince George, which is a town about 300 miles from the border. So all in all we drove a little over 500 miles that day. We stopped at Hell's Gate, which I am going to have a separate blog about so if you want you can look read it. It was really cool. So all day we were driving through smoke and all the radio stations kept talking about local smoke conditions. At one point during the day the smoke was like fog around us. All of central BC was covered in smoke. But it was still very very pretty. But unfortunately my internet connection won't let me post the pictures here now. But as so as I can I will put them up HERE:

In the mean time you will hopefully be able to click on the link to the left to see them. But anywho so we pulled into Prince George all excited to go camping and eat Boston Pizza. But we come to find out that all the towns in the surrounding area were being evacuated into PG because of the fires. And it was about 10 C out. And all the air was full of smoke. So we stayed at Grama's Hotel, which was very cute and comfy.

The next morning we woke up around 530 and hit the road. We went through some very beautiful country which in the future you will be able to see HERE:

Our goal was to make it to Fort Nelson which was about 500 miles from PG. We hit the Alaskan Highway at about 1. It is actually a very nice highway with only a few spots that were clearly marked that had loose gravel. Other than that it has been smooth, curvy, beautiful sailing. Of course, pictures will be HERE:

So when we pulled into Fort Nelson at 230 we decide to keep going. The BC map in the atlas had mysteriously stopped after Fort St. John about an hour before. For some reason they decided that nobody should go more north than that I guess. My GPS had minimal coverage this  far north so all it picked up on was chain hotels and gas and the road. So we set out with the intentions of seeing how far we could make it before dark, but we didn't really know where anything was. I filled up the car for 114.9 cents per liter (about $4/gal) and away we went. It was very nice and peaceful. We had seen nothing but two coyotes along the way so everytime we saw a moose, caribou or deer crossing sign we started to look. We saw 3 deer, one still had its spots. We got down to half a tank of gas and it was raining really hard and Dad kept saying things like " It might hail, it looks like slush, maybe it will snow" while we were traveling through a very high mountain pass where snow was not very unlikely. We came to a sign that said Rock Mountain Park, which I didnt really think anything of (all the mountains are rock) and we went around a bend and it took my breath away. It was soo pretty! The whole mountain from about 100 yds away from us up was all 100% rock. No trees or bushes or even loose rock but huge giant mountains that were just flats rocks leaned on eachother. Words dont do it justice you will have to look at pictures HERE:

So we started winding through that. I started to freak because it seemed like we would never see a gas station again. It had been like 2 hrs since any building at all except one abandoned one. And Watson Lake, the next town according to all the signs and maps, was still 250 miles off. So I completely flipped when I saw a largish cabin that said gas. I made Dad pull off and I filled it up for 132. Uggg! But it was a good thing that we did cuz the next place was 100 miles and it was 140! So we continued and saw a caribou crossing and a (this was weird) horse crossing signs. I didnt know what the think about the horse crossing.

So we saw a caribou doe. She was cute and ran straight up the road in front of us. We also saw some wild bison eating on the side of the road. So their pictures will be up HERE:

So we came around a bend and saw a farm with horses in a pasture and thats when we saw HIM! A wild stallion was standing next to the pasture horses checking out one of the mares. OH MY GAWD!! I didnt realize BC had wild horses until today! And we saw more! About 3 miles from a First Nations place we saw some more eating by the side of the road! But I think some of them might have been the Indian's because one of the mares had a cowbell on. Dad said it was to scare away bears but I dont think bears would let a cowbell stop them from eating. But a two of them were kinda hanging away from the rest and so I think they mightve been wild. Specially since one of them was a stallion and the only other male in the group was a gelding and he was def tame.

So that was very interesting. But we did make it to Lake Watson! We came 860 miles today and the sign on the way in said FOOD LODGING CAMPING REST CELL SERVICE. It made me laugh. But honestly Canada is B-E-A-utiful and really is like Colorado, only forever.
